Energetic materials, including explosives, propellants, gunpowder and so on, have attracted more and more attention and been widely used in military and civil fields. Despite intensive research for possible replacements, TAT (1,3,5,7-tetracetyl1,3,5,7-octahydroazocine) is still considered to be one of the most important energetic materials because of its versatile application. Due to the high demand for TAT, optimization of synthesis and development of new methods are of great interest to both academia and industry. Therefore, in this work, the synthesis of TAT via the intermediate DAPT (1,5-diacetyl-1, 3, 5, 7-tetraazabicyclo (3,3,1) nonane) was investigated as a possible alternative industrial production methods. TAT (1,3,5,7-tetracetyl-1,3,5,7-octahydroazocine) is an intermediate in a noval process for the production of the important military explosive HMX (1,3,5,7tetranitro-1,3,5, 7-octahydro- tetazocine)[4-5]. This paper reports a new procedure for preparing TAT from hexamine in a one-step process without the separation of DAPT (1,5-diacetyl-1, 3, 5, 7tetraazabicyclo (3,3,1) nonane).
